Our Neuro-Oncology team is led by Michael A. Vogelbaum MD, PhD and Peter Forsyth MD, who are world-renowned specialists in their fields. Our Neuro-Oncology specialists focus solely on the diagnosis and treatment of brain and spinal tumors, and since Moffitt is a high-volume cancer center, our specialists possess an unparalleled level of experience. In turn, this leads to better outcomes and an improved quality of life for our patients.
Referring physicians can trust in the experience of our esteemed Neuro-Oncology specialists. Our team consists of experts from many different specialties, such as:
These specialists help to ensure each patient’s treatment plan gives them the best chance at living longer and having an improved quality of life. Thanks to our comprehensive approach, which often includes genomic evaluation of the tumor, and the expertise of our neuro-oncology specialists, we consistently achieve outcomes that are better than the national averages.
To keep referring physicians informed about their patients, Moffitt provides detailed records on the progress of a patient’s treatment. We also have a 24/7 hotline so that referring physicians can be kept up-to-date at all times.
To refer a patient to a specialist in our Neuro-Oncology Program, complete our online form or contact a physician liaison for assistance or support. Our Neuro-Oncology Program is actively working to improve treatment options, outcomes and quality of life for brain cancer patients now and into the future through our nationally renowned clinical trial program. Before novel treatments are made widely available, they must go through clinical trials that allow researchers to identify when they are most effective, how they interact with other therapies and their success against various types of brain cancer. Advances in understanding the biology of cancer, and efforts to develop new, more effective therapeutics, ultimately result in the development of novel treatments.
While our Neuro-Oncology specialists provide excellent and cutting-edge care, we recognize that for many of the diseases we treat, there are no cures. There are also opportunities to reduce the impact of treatments on some of the diseases for which there are effective treatments. The Moffitt Neuro-Oncology Program includes members of the Moffitt Research Institute (MRI) where scientists are investigating the biological basis of cancer, developing novel therapeutics for gliomas and brain metastases, developing more effective ways of helping the immune system fight cancer, and even using advanced mathematical concepts to optimize treatments. Advances in understanding the biology of cancer, and efforts to develop new, more effective therapeutics, ultimately result in the development of novel treatments. These treatments are provided to patients initially in clinical trials, and Moffitt Cancer Center has one of the largest clinical trial programs in cancer in the nation. The Neuro-Oncology Program Team includes a number of specialists who have well-recognized expertise in delivering investigational treatments to patients with brain cancer.
