At Moffitt Cancer Center, patients with head and neck cancer have access to a comprehensive team of specialists. Each patient may consult with a different group of experts based on the treatments he or she is considering. However, it’s common for a patient’s head and neck cancer treatment team to include one or more surgeons, medical oncologists (chemotherapy experts) and radiation oncologists (physicians who treat cancer with radiation therapy).
Other experts who may contribute to a patient’s head and neck cancer treatment include:
At Moffitt, even our specialists have their own specialties. Rather than having a single team of medical oncologists create chemotherapy prescriptions for all of our patients, we have a designated group of medical oncologists that exclusively treat head and neck cancers. The same is true of our surgeons and radiation oncologists. As a result, the highly accomplished medical professionals in our Head and Neck Cancer Program are among the nation’s most experienced in their field. Our patients are able to consult with renowned innovators in minimally invasive skull base surgery, medication-based treatment of thyroid and parathyroid tumors, endoscopic diagnostic procedures and other advanced clinical services.
Taking our team-based approach one step further, Moffitt hosts weekly tumor board meetings, where all of our specialists come together to discuss complex and challenging cases. This allows us to review unique situations from a variety of angles, finding new and innovative treatment options for patients who need more than a traditional treatment plan.
Because of our commitment to multispecialty treatment, our patients not only benefit from multiple expert opinions in a single location, but also a less stressful day-to-day experience. Our patients can focus on what really matters – getting better – without worrying about what clinic they need to go to for which treatment or transferring medical records from one provider to the next.
